KYSTogFISK.dk is a network for Nordic social science research concerning management of marine resources and coastal community development. It was initiated in 2007; since them the members of the group have meet annually.
Social scientists all over Scandinavia conduct research concerning management of the marine resources and development in coastal communities depending on marine resources. This research is more specifically related to
· Institutional frameworks and governance for marine management, including stakeholder participation, conditions for sustainability, compliance, distribution of resources, and efficiency of management
· The relations between the social and economic development of coastal communities and management of marine resources
Among the fisheries scientists, it is increasingly acknowledged that fisheries, as an area of research, is an empirically defined field that does not readily acknowledge the formal disciplinary boundaries; several disciplines offer their contribution to the research. Coordination of the research in this field is assumed to contribute positively to the development of fisheries, which are economically and socially sustainable.
Today, the coordination of this research only takes place on an informal level based on personal contacts. So far there has been made no attempt to make a social science network for fisheries scientists. The purpose of this project is to create such network to strengthen and coordinate the social science research by creating a forum for exchange and discussion of research results cross country- and research boundaries.
The main activities of the network are the two annual network workshops; researchers are invited to present and discuss their results amongst colleagues from other disciplines and from other countries.
Relevant disciplines include political science, sociology, institutional economy, anthropology, ethnography, history, and geography. Researchers from natural sciences and humanistic disciplines are also welcome to participate in the network given that their research is within the scope of the network.
